Wait, I thought your name was Sundog Outdoor Expeditions?
When we first started out we had a dream of a parent organization which we called Midcoast Outdoor Leadership Initiative with several offshoot programs, the first of which we called Sundog Outdoor Expeditions. In reality, the multiple names became too confusing, so we ended up combining into one single entity called Sundog Outdoor Leadership Initiative.
My child has never done this activity before, is prior experience necessary?
No prior experience is necessary to participate in a Sundog program! Our professional subcontractors are fantastic at catering to each individual's needs. All we ask is that students come prepared for and open to new experiences. We'll handle the rest!
What do you mean by subcontractors? If you don’t have your own guides or instructors, who runs the courses?
When we founded SOLI, we knew we didn’t want to duplicate the educational competence and expertise and compete with organizations already resident in our region. We decided the best way to do that would be to team up and subcontract through them instead. In doing this, we are able to heavily subsidize tuition through our generous grants and donors, all while supporting local small businesses and increasing community involvement and cohesion. The businesses we subcontract with all attend a SOLI guide training where we teach their guides our curriculum and reinforce our core values, learning targets, and our essential question. Do you offer financial aid or scholarships?
Absolutely! Financial accessibility for all is one of the things that is of the utmost importance to us. We offer partial and full scholarships for every course that we run. For more information, please email info@sundogoe.com.
Do you provide transportation?
Unfortunately, generally we do not provide transportation to and from the pick up and drop off points at this time. We do, however, provide transportation for certain overnight courses.
Do you provide gear?
Our subcontractors provide all the necessary technical equipment for the given activity. However, we do not provide clothing appropriate for the weather or activity and that must be provided by the student.
